About Us

What is Walk Across Tennessee?

Walk Across Tennessee is a team-based walking program. The teams are encouraged to cumulatively walk the equivalent of the length of Tennessee (about 500 miles) or more, over an eight-week period. Team members do not have to walk together. Some may prefer to walk outside, while others walk on a treadmill. The team who walks the farthest “across Tennessee” will win, but everyone who participates will take home a healthy habit – walking for fitness.

Team composition will vary by county guidelines. One member is selected as the captain. Each team chooses a unique team name that identifies the team during the challenge.

Various forms are accepted, a listing of examples may be found on the mileage conversion chart, located on the mileage calculator tab.

Each member reports the total number of miles of fitness activities to the team captain on a weekly basis. The team captain reports the data for all the team members to the program.

There is a mileage calculator that can be used to convert various activities to miles.
